Earthsea fans out there will be interested in this, which is reportedly Ursula LeGuin's response to the Sci-Fi Channel "Earthsea" movie. It reads like her, so I'm inclined to believe that these are, in fact, her comments.

Date: 2004-12-16 05:49 pm (UTC)i think about how much creative power jk rowling has had over the harry potter films -- outright vetoing plot and scenery additions, etc. -- and i think it's a shame that all authors don't have that.
neil mentions this in his journal, along with an ain't it cool news article about the frankly abysmal sandman movie script. i realize that most author's don't have the time or the inclination to write screenplays, but why would any screenwriter in his/her right mind want to screw with the original? i'm sure these things would make more money by complying with the author's wishes... but then, i know nothing about hollywood ways.
i suppose i'd better check out these earthsea books, eh?
