A little over a week ago I struck the spout of my 4-cup coffeemaker carafe on the edge of the kitchen counter whilst extracting it, clean, from the dishwasher. The spout cracked right off, leaving a sharp edge, and I declared the thing broken. Eric threw it away and the next morning the garbage man came and collected it with the other garbage. And now I find that the company that manufactured it -- a Swiss company -- is "out of business," and the carafe may be irreplacable. Which leaves me with a perfectly good, yet unuseable, Swiss coffee maker. For now I'm using my coffee press for my morning Joe. I enjoy pressed coffee, but I don't actually want it *every* morning. I want to be able to click the switch, let the coffee maker do the work, and let the dear thing keep the coffee I'm not yet drinking hot for me in its carafe.
I really don't want to replace my coffee maker with one made in China.
Sigh.
I'm keeping it around, for now, in hopes of finding a solution to this problem. Walking into a resale shop and findng a matching carafe just waiting for me. Or something. But I can't hold onto it indefinitely.
