Earthsea fans out there will be interested in this, which is reportedly Ursula LeGuin's response to the Sci-Fi Channel "Earthsea" movie. It reads like her, so I'm inclined to believe that these are, in fact, her comments.

That was interesting. I taped the miniseries but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. After reading that, maybe I won't bother, but will re-read the books and introduce the kids to them instead.

I figured you had a line on this somewhere, but just in case you didn't I thought I'd post it. :)

They're such great books, and it's definitely time to introduce them to the boys, IMO. I forgot to record the miniseries, but I wasn't all that interested anyway, since I had heard it wasn't too faithful to the books.

i've never read anything by le guin except some short stories, which were lovely, but i really feel bad for her about this earthsea thing.

i think about how much creative power jk rowling has had over the harry potter films -- outright vetoing plot and scenery additions, etc. -- and i think it's a shame that all authors don't have that.

neil mentions this in his journal, along with an ain't it cool news article about the frankly abysmal sandman movie script. i realize that most author's don't have the time or the inclination to write screenplays, but why would any screenwriter in his/her right mind want to screw with the original? i'm sure these things would make more money by complying with the author's wishes... but then, i know nothing about hollywood ways.

i suppose i'd better check out these earthsea books, eh?
