We haven't even started at the public school yet and already I'm so fed up with them *and* the district that I'm tempted to bail and find a private school.  And supposedly we have one of the best schools in the district, in one of the best districts in the state.  That's more damning than encouraging at this point.

Oh, hi! I missed your comment for a whole week, sorry!

They have a weird approach to orienting new Kindergarten families to the place -- they show us the school library, the cafeteria, and the gym (Kindergarteners don't eat lunch there, of course, but we're informed a year ahead of time!) but they didn't want us to visit the Kindergarten classrooms or meet the teachers. It was terrifically annoying considering I attended three separate events in hope of meeting the teacher. Things seem to have fallen in to place now, although I have yet to have an actual conversation with her teacher. Maggie's adjusting well and enjoying it, though. I love her sense of adventure! I'm feeling much better this week than I was last.

Why wouldn't they want parents to meet the teachers? The schools are usually begging for parental involvement. That's weird.

We got to meet Aidan's teacher at his assessment last week, though it was brief because she had a lot of kids and parents coming through.

I wonder if they're afraid the parents will pester the teachers with all their worries about how their kids will adjust to kindergarten. That's the only explanation I can think of. Or maybe they don't want people getting attached to one teacher and demanding to be assigned to that class.

The teachers were already assigned by the end of July, the assessments took place on the first day of school during class time. This is a pretty involved group of parents -- with just over 700 students in the school we have over 400 volunteers. I wonder if they just think it's not important somehow.

We're having something called "Back to School" night at the end of the month. I guess that will be our chance to meet the teachers and ask questions.

Were you there (in the room) for Aidan's assessment? How long did it take? I think Maggie's was partly one-on-one and partly worked into their classroom projects (ie -- draw a picture of yourself.) She had counted to 116 with me a few days before, but says she only counted to 49 for her assessment. :)
