starting to understand why people vote Republican

We haven't even started at the public school yet and already I'm so fed up with them *and* the district that I'm tempted to bail and find a private school.  And supposedly we have one of the best schools in the district, in one of the best districts in the state.  That's more damning than encouraging at this point.

The teachers were already assigned by the end of July, the assessments took place on the first day of school during class time. This is a pretty involved group of parents -- with just over 700 students in the school we have over 400 volunteers. I wonder if they just think it's not important somehow.

We're having something called "Back to School" night at the end of the month. I guess that will be our chance to meet the teachers and ask questions.

Were you there (in the room) for Aidan's assessment? How long did it take? I think Maggie's was partly one-on-one and partly worked into their classroom projects (ie -- draw a picture of yourself.) She had counted to 116 with me a few days before, but says she only counted to 49 for her assessment. :)
