We haven't even started at the public school yet and already I'm so fed up with them *and* the district that I'm tempted to bail and find a private school. And supposedly we have one of the best schools in the district, in one of the best districts in the state. That's more damning than encouraging at this point.

Were you there (in the room) for Aidan's assessment? How long did it take? I think Maggie's was partly one-on-one and partly worked into their classroom projects (ie -- draw a picture of yourself.) She had counted to 116 with me a few days before, but says she only counted to 49 for her assessment. :)
