Dear God, or Archangel currently in charge of weather --

Would you please pipe a bit of that warmth from the Atlantic Coast our way?  Thanx.

Something tells me that it is going to warm up quickly. Especially when an earthquake tears a hole in the crust and cubic miles of lava erupt out!

No, but I could be.
Oregon is the second largest lava flow in the world.
Of course, the hot spot that produced them was last seen under Yellowstone Park... so we probably won't have another couple thousand cubic miles of Lava pouring out any time soon.

Yellowstone? Home of Old Faithful? That seems like a good thing.

I'm always wondering when Mt St Helen's will go again. Seems it's just a matter of time.

And here I am again, after a week! or so!

If you look at a map of Yellowstone, it has that big lake. That is actually a collapsed Caldera of that mega volcano. When it exploded, it was one of the biggest eruptions ever.

Anyway, that isn't directly related to our current volcanism. Our current volcanism comes from plate tectonics, and that is believed to be related to a wandering "hot spot", a hot place in the mantle that heats up the crust that floats above it. Also responsible for the Columbia River Basalts.

I have a feeling that we're going to have to pay for this cool weather in September with really hot unbearable weather just when we're all ready to break out the jackets and sweaters.

A distinct possibility. Although we did have really hot weather earlier than usual this year, too, so maybe not.

Wanna do something with the kids next Thursday? Oh, and send your phone # again. :)
