Sigh.

The entire house is coated with a fine layer of kleenex dust.

I was supposed to have gone to two parties yesterday -- I was invited to a baby shower and the whole family was invited to a birthday party -- but we are all still sick, and so we stayed home.

Portland's first big literary festival, Wordstock, was this weekend, and I had hoped to spend some time there today. Again, too sick.

Combined with the isolation of being the mother of an infant, the isolation of being sick for the past 3 months is getting me down. Really down. My good friend Laura, who moved to a town 3 hours away from here a few months before Maggie was born, calls me and tells me about all the things she does. She even drove back into town for Wordstock. She does more in a week than I do in two months. I don't want her schedule, but it sure would be nice to do *something* again. Socialize. Volunteer. Whatever.

Eric suggested earlier I go take a nap. I told him I don't want to nap, which is true. I realize now, though, that I kinda would like to crawl in bed and cry for a while. I'll take that as a good sign. When I used to get sick a lot, in high school, I usually went into a wet sobby funk right before getting well. So, maybe health is on the way. After that, who knows? Maybe I'll have lunch with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

I was feeling really down last week too. That's a new one for me, usually colds don't make me feel depressed, but this one was taking so long to go away. And it's hard when you feel like you're cooped up inside all week, with a sick baby, feeling crappy.

As soon as you're feeling better let's do something! Have you been to Old Wives Tales? It's a very baby friendly restaurant. Or Peanut Butter and Ellie's? I haven't tried that one.

I was at Old Wives Tales once years ago, and I liked it. Going back would be nice! Probably not for a couple of weeks, though. This week is about recovery and catching up and preparing for my parents' visit next week. Assuming good health, we'll be available the second week of May.

Hope you all are feeling better now!
