Due Date update
Aug. 8th, 2004 11:58 amWell, it's just about noon on my Official Due Date, and no signs of labor yet. Since I've been expecting to be gripped by uterine contractions at any minute for, oh, two weeks or so now, I'm not exactly shocked or surprised. Frankly, there are no more signs that I'll "go" today than there were two weeks ago. But things are changing, slowly, in babymaker land. For one thing, Eric took a look last night and said (in the oh-so-tactful way he often does): "Whoa!!"
Me: What?
Him: Your shape has changed!
Me: You think so? Did she drop?
Him: Yeah. I think so.
Me: Yeah, I was thinking she felt lower the last couple of days.
As you can see, I have a tremendous amount of insight as to what is going on with my body. At all times.
Until recently I was more uncomfortable higher up. Now I'm more uncomfortable lower down, and I don't like sitting so I walk, squat, bend, and generally move around more. I've been told scrubbing the floor can start labor, and believe it or not that doesn't sound so bad.
So, if I'm not in labor by this time tomorrow, we'll be at the doctor's office for another check-up and a "talk" about what comes next -- fetal stress tests, ultrasounds, induction -- and when. So, I suppose I should work up a list of my preferences so I know what to negotiate for. Then I'll come home and post some more, I'm sure. And Eric will go back to work and be bored and wait.
Too bad we can't negotiate with the baby.
