Eric and I managed to haul my very pregnant bod to a wedding yesterday afternoon. The heatwave broke Saturday night, or I don't think it would have been possible. Where Saturday afternoon at 4 it was 100 degrees, Sunday at 4 it was just 85. The wedding was outdoors, and unfortunately we we had to sit in the sun for a while, but the souvenir favors were fans -- I used mine to keep the sun off my head -- so it all worked out okay. It also helped that the wedding location was just 10 minutes from our home.

We didn't stay for the whole thing -- my lower legs had turned into gigundous pale sausages after about 4 hours there -- but we were able to stay through the meal and even quickly down a slice of cake before heading home, which was a lot better than I at first expected. Got to spend time with a group of people we hadn't seen in a while and watch them get drunk. It was fun.

The bride and groom seemed to be having a wonderful time, which is really what it's all about. Okay, well, not really, but it sure helps.

I really like weddings.

Even though we were home by 8, I stayed up until a little after midnight reading my book, which I'm hoping to finish today as I only have 60 or so pages left to go and it's a quick read. That would not have been a problem if I had been allowed to sleep until 7 or 8 like usual. Alas, the cat had other ideas, banging on the door at a quarter past four and waking me up quite effectively. There was no going back to sleep after that, for some reason. I got to feel the baby squirming, though. I guess I'd better get used to 4:30 am, it seems to be an awake time for her, so I'm expecting her to want feedings at that hour.

I have a question -- why is it when the neighbor's automatic sprinklers start up, I can hear the water running through our pipes? I've been wondering that for five years, now.

So, it's Monday morning, I've had about 4 hours of sleep, I'm thirsty and hungry, so I guess I'll get this week started by having breakfast now. On the list for today -- several phone calls, some yoga, some more reading about the birth process (why not?), grocery shopping, laundry, watering the garden, and, I hope, a good long 2-3 hour nap. Plus meals. I'm also supposed to buy something at Target, but I can't remember what right now.

Hunh. I think I know why the neighbors' lawn isn't all that green. Their sprinklers only run for 6 minutes.

Sheesh, weddings are the social occasion to wear a hat!

I have a head that looks terrible in 98% of hats. I wish I could do it, but I just can't. And yesterday, in the sun, I was really wishing I'd had a lovely hat to wear.
