But first, can anyone out there iconize this for me?

Thanks!

Well, the doctor was running an hour late, which nobody really bothered to reveal to me, or at least not at a time when it would have done me some good. I did get a warning after sitting down in the exam room that "there was a meeting this morning and she's running a bit late," which I thought meant 10-20 minutes. Darn. I didn't bring anything to read or do. An hour later the nurse comes in to see if cobwebs have formed around me yet. I'd had to get up and move many times, since sitting still when you're 32 weeks pregnant is quite uncomfortable if not darn near impossible. But just minutes later the doctor finally appeared and life went on.

She asked about my future birth control plans ("um, I don't know") and she said that breastfeeding is about 80% effective as birth control, if it's the only way I feed the baby. I'll think about it. I told her the iron had me feeling a lot better, and she asked me to get another blood test soon to make sure my levels are where they ought to be. Since I meant to take 2 pills a day for the past 3 days, just to be on the safe side, test-wise, but I didn't manage to, I decided to put the test off until Monday, which gives me time to 'stock up.' I'm not too worried about it, though. If the way I feel is any indication, I'm much better off now than I was a month or two ago.

The worst part was laying on my back to listen to the baby's heartbeat. It took a long time for her to find it, and even though the little dear has been kicking me in the ribs all day, I got nervous and lightheaded. Like one of those Victorian women, I got 'the vapors,' and practically passed out. How embarassing. But the heartbeat was found, it's about 130-140, she said, and I started to feel better. She (the doctor) felt around for the baby's position and said she thought that le bebe is probably head-down already, though her (the baby's) position at the 34 week appt matters more, because by that time she'll be where she will probably stay. Still, I'm happy that things seem to be on track, and hoping all continues to go well.

Next appt is 34 weeks, and they'll ask me to strip and wear the blue gown for examination again. Whee.

Next up, second childbirth class tonight (and I still haven't posted about the first one!) and baby shower this weekend.

Wow, I can't believe you're at 32 weeks already!! Sounds like baby is being cooperative by getting into position. I had the same response when they asked me about birth control after the baby. It had been so long since it had been a consideration, my answer was "Uh...I dunno." I sounded real educated. I'm thinking of trying the mini pill, which is supposedly safe for breastfeeding.

I also can't believe your doctor's office would keep a pregnant woman waiting for an hour. Yikes.

Time's flyin', although it's also kind of hard to believe I still have nearly 8 weeks to go. Even Eric said last night that wasn't right.

As for the dr's office, I won't complain too much, they're generally really good about being on time, but being kept waiting that long does really suck.

I haven't been on the pill in ages -- last time I didn't respond to it very well, and now that I'm over 35 I'm not sure that it's the way to go anyhow. Gonna have to do some research. I was always able to tell before when was the "dangerous" time of the month, and take extra care, but I imagine it will take quite some time to get back into a predictable cycle, and I'd prefer not to take too many chances.
