Dear LJ Friends (you know who you are)

It is probably somewhat inappropriate for me to do this, but I am asking all of you to please post a little note in the next day or two.  Because about half of you, maybe more, haven't posted anything in the past week and/or next-to-nothing in the past month.  And I miss you. You don't have to say much, just hello and maybe a description of the weather where you are.  (I'm weather-involved) and maybe what book you've enjoyed lately.

I doubt you're wondering why it's inappropriate for me to ask this, but in case you are, I'll point out the obvious:
1) I almost never post
2) I almost never comment

But I am here, and I am reading, and I am hoping you are well.

For those who are posting, I apologize for my lack of commenting.  Things are well with us, but a bit overwhelming at the moment.  I expect to be available to make some real posts and some real comments beginning in about 2 weeks.

The weather here is cool, though we're expecting warming.  We will be in Ohio for a wedding over the weekend, wherewhen it should be 90 and humid.  So I am about to get more warm than I can probably handle.

I've just been enjoying more Terry Pratchett Discworld books, although not as much as I wanted to enjoy them, so I'm now looking for something new to read.  Next up may be "Gods Behaving Badly."  Or maybe something else.

*chuckles*

Believe me, you're not one of the ones I'm thinking of. :-) But I always love hearing from you. What's your typing speed anyway? You must have my 37 wpm beat by at least double.

typing speed

uh...really fast?

I actually don't know--I wonder how I'd figure it out? there must be a website somewhere...

Oh, yes, I'm sure there are online typing tests, I remember taking one some years ago and being pleased that I was up from my college typing-test speed of 31 wpm. :)

I just took this one,
http://www.typeonline.co.uk/typingspeed.php
it said 52 wpm with 3 mistakes. Not counting the five I corrected while taking the test. So I guess I'm doing better than I thought, but I still feel like a fumblefingers most of the time.

Holy cow! I took the speed test and scored 73 wpm with 3 mistakes. WILD!

My gf has been reading The Wee Free Men; they seem to be quite funny, based on how frequently she has had to interrupt MY reading to share ;-).

I don't know if you are up for something a little on the heavier side, but The Way the Crow Flies by Ann Marie McDonald was fantastic.

Pratchett rocks

I started with The Wee Free Men, for some reason I no longer remember. Of the approx dozen Pratchett books I've read, that's in the top two. I could read about Feegles forever. :)

I'll put Ann Marie McDonald on the list. I've got such a backlog, including Water for Elephants, which I think you've mentioned before, Sunnyside, which I've begun and seems great, and several others. Not to mention the nonfiction.....

Well, I think my gf could read about the Feegles forever, so you two would have a lot of fun talking about how they love to steal ships and drink and fight.

I loved Like Water for Elephants; it was a quick read and very nice. AMM's book is a bit heavier.

I'm going to be spending much of the summer reading Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine. GAH!

Let me know what you think of Gods Behaving Badly. If you like it, I'll give it a try. I've run out of Pratchett.

Mental note made to write at least a brief review upon completion.

I have a print copy of it, and I own a Kindle, so I'll probably be reading something else on the Kindle while traveling. You know the airlines always want you to travel without actually bringing anything with you on the plane now, so we adapt as we must. :) But Gods looks entertaining, so I'm looking forward to reading it.

[identity profile] kellyrfineman.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very, very funny. I talked about it in a quoteskimming post. Everyone I know who's read it likes it a lot. And I know (or know of 5 other people besides myself who've read it, and they tend to pass it on and/or buy it for others).

[identity profile] kellyrfineman.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Gods Behaving Badly was hilarious. I thought so, and so did M, and so did [livejournal.com profile] angeladegroot's husband, and so did [livejournal.com profile] juliewinkler and her mom and more. So if you're looking for teh funny, that's the place to look.

Thanks! I'm into Pratchett partly because of you, too! I'll put GBB at the top of my pile for when we get back from our travels.

Sorry I'm not commenting on your posts, I am enjoying them when I have time, and really appreciating the effort you are obviously putting into them. Too bad Shakespeare month coincides with Big Travel Month for me this year. :-/

No worries. And the posts will still be there ad infinitum, so there's that.

Thank goodness for LJ tags! :)

[identity profile] dampscribbler.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...which has me thinking, have you done an LJ backup lately? I've used LJ book before (though not nearly recently enough), and found it pretty easy.

[identity profile] kellyrfineman.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I've never done an LJ backup. I suppose I ought to, yes?

[identity profile] dampscribbler.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes!!

I'm not the one to ask about backup tools, though, as I started and ended with LJBook. I do know that there are other tools out there, but I don't know anything about them.
