You never know what you're gonna get

When I picked up Maggie from school on Monday, she was holding a book she couldn't put down and yelling to me with great excitement about it.  I've never really seen her so excited over a book, and this is a kid who really likes books (especially cross-marketing ones like Princesses, Barbies, and Ponies, but I digress.)  As she ran toward me waving the book the first thing I noticed was that the cover wasn't pink.  Then she got closer and I got a good look at it, and almost fell over with surprise and wonder.

That is really cool! Do you know about the David Wiesner books? He is a wonderful illustrator.

I had to go look at Amazon, and yes, I've heard of him and seen his work in the bookstores. We have a surprising shortage of quality picture books around, maybe she's just starting to get to that age. I remember being really impressed with his books that I saw, maybe we can add some of those to the library. :)

I hope your library has his books! I would be surprised if they didn't. Multnomah County is renowned for its services!

We used to read a lot of children's books, but I haven't read any in quite some time, so I'm not so up on them like I used to be. Eloise is one of my favorite characters; I kinda wish there were more of them, but at the same time, I'm delighted there aren't. I'm thinking Maggie's probably a little young still for those, but I'm totally sure of her age or desire/ability to sit and be read to :D.
