You never know what you're gonna get

When I picked up Maggie from school on Monday, she was holding a book she couldn't put down and yelling to me with great excitement about it.  I've never really seen her so excited over a book, and this is a kid who really likes books (especially cross-marketing ones like Princesses, Barbies, and Ponies, but I digress.)  As she ran toward me waving the book the first thing I noticed was that the cover wasn't pink.  Then she got closer and I got a good look at it, and almost fell over with surprise and wonder.

Isn't that cool! I just love it when she surprises me like that. It has illustrations and photos, and she was so delighted to show me the drawings of a squid pulling a man off a ship, and the photos of a dissected (or at least bisected) squid in a lab. I really don't think I could have been more surprised. :)
