Tastes like Germany
Oct. 11th, 2007 01:22 pmToday I did something long overdue and finally visited Edelweiss Sausage Company in SE. We're having a few people over on Saturday for brats and beers, and I thought I would go authentic and get some actual German bratwurst. I figured they'd have some mustard, too, and I'll cook up some homemade pretzels. What I hadn't even considered was the candy. My oh my, the candy! Ritter Sport, Haribo Gummi Bears, and the holy grail for me -- Mozart Kugeln. I first had these amazing candies in Germany back in 1990, my only visit to Germany so far. I loved them and have never seen them since. But I was looking for them, and there they were, and I grabbed a "flute" with 5 in it with great delight. Maggie waswith me, so we bought a ridiculous amount of sweets, including some cookies called Pfefferneusse, which I had always thought were peppermint cookies. Turned out they're spice cookies, but as Maggie said: "Mom! Mom! These are soooo good!" She's down for her nap now, so I pulled out the Mozart Kugeln -- that was when I realized I paid over $10 for them. Turns out, though, they're still wonderful, and it was worth every penny.
