Today I did something long overdue and finally visited Edelweiss Sausage Company in SE. We're having a few people over on Saturday for brats and beers, and I thought I would go authentic and get some actual German bratwurst. I figured they'd have some mustard, too, and I'll cook up some homemade pretzels. What I hadn't even considered was the candy. My oh my, the candy! Ritter Sport, Haribo Gummi Bears, and the holy grail for me -- Mozart Kugeln. I first had these amazing candies in Germany back in 1990, my only visit to Germany so far. I loved them and have never seen them since. But I was looking for them, and there they were, and I grabbed a "flute" with 5 in it with great delight. Maggie waswith me, so we bought a ridiculous amount of sweets, including some cookies called Pfefferneusse, which I had always thought were peppermint cookies. Turned out they're spice cookies, but as Maggie said: "Mom! Mom! These are soooo good!" She's down for her nap now, so I pulled out the Mozart Kugeln -- that was when I realized I paid over $10 for them. Turns out, though, they're still wonderful, and it was worth every penny.

YAY

Yum, European chocolate. Those Mozart Kugeln symphonies of flavor (according to the website) sound awesome. When I was in London, my roommates and I were all obsessed with the German (I think) chocolate Kinder Surprise Eggs. More for the surprise, I think, but they were still yummy.

I'm living technically within the city limits of Chicago, but un-technically in the village of Stickney. It's just north of Midway airport. The little neighborhood is very cute and there's a Starbucks within walking distance. Where did you live, and where did you work? I applied for a couple of the educational publishers out here, but no one hired me. :-(

I'm glad you're reading and posting! Good to hear from you too!

I lived in Hinsdale and worked for Holt,Dryden, and Saunders. They got bought by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and I think our office sorta disappeared. I moved out the California right after the HBJ purchase.

I'm a sucker for the Ritter Sport chocolates. I like them better than most of the others, including Milka.

Christian's mom sends us a big box once or twice a year, loaded with chocolate goodies. :-)

Ritter Sport rocks! I used to get it in Canada, it's nice to know I can get it in the states if I look around.

A big goody box from the in-laws sounds great! Do you send them White Castles and Jimmy Dean Pancakes and Sausage on a Stick? :)

No, but they'd be happy if we could send them donuts. :-)
