Wedding

My Sister-in-law got married today. The first wedding our little Maggie has attended. I came back to the house with her while her Daddy and grandparents stayed to party on with most of the others. The kid did great, collapsing against me on the dance floor but wailing her protest every time I tried to take her from it. I had a great time, seeing people I hadn't seen in years, some of whom also had little toddler-age kids. I drank too much wine, which wasn't much at all but I'm out of practice. I nearly missed the cake by leaving for the bathroom at one point, but I got a slice of coconut which was great by me because I love coconut cake, and it was delicious, moist, flaky, and not-too-coconutty.

I'm still a little buzzed.

I'm also a little nauseated. Yay for being a lightweight.

I nearly bawled at the wedding, which is not really my way but I haven't been to any weddings since becoming a mother and it seems to have changed things somehow. Maggie was cool, though, walking up and down the pew during the ceremony, sitting on my lap, her Dad's lap, her Grammy's lap, playing with her toy, discovering a better toy, discovering my knee, telling me about my knee, telling my knee "bye bye" as she covered it with my skirt, and finally, all of fourteen minutes into the ceremony, getting that look in her eye that said "I'm about to get really noisy and obnoxious." I quickly walked to the church's "cry room" with her in precisely the middle of the vows between the bride and groom. In the cry room we joined another toddler-laden family, and the two little girls proceeded to avoid and then ultimately ignore one another. Someday maybe they'll be best friends.

I think that's enough for now. I may need sleep. Or water. Probably both.
