Maggie pushed herself hard today. Yesterday was a big day -- parent-teacher conference, playdate with two little girlfriends, and a trip out to the pumpkin patch where we picked five pumpkins and she rode her first (miniature) train *and* her first boat. All with only a 30-minute nap in the car.

Today she started the day with a cartoon and a movie and hot chocolate (good parenting, eh? ask me how I do it!) After the movie she helped me make grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch, although she ate only two slices of cheese (believe it or not this is a pretty good lunch for her, two slices of cheese). Then it was outdoor adventuring for 90 minutes, snack, putting away laundry, and more outdoor adventuring. Then we read a book and I started to get dinner ready. She had requested penne with tomato sauce, and she was excited about reading her new book at bedtime with Daddy, but it was not to be. The Meltdown Express arrived at 5:25, and after a while of fit-throwing, she passed out on the sofa at 5:50. I managed to move her upstairs at 6:45, this being approximately the third time in her life she has stayed asleep when moved. She's now sleeping in her bed (with freshly washed bedding, of course) with her clothes on. How long before she wakes up? How long will she be awake, and how many times will she get up tonight? Only the shadow knows.... I'm tempted to start my own sleeping now.

~~sends sleep vibes~~ I had this happen with my three year old a few months back. She fell asleep around 6 and slept for an hour and a half. I thought I was doomed, but I managed to get her back to bed by 9 I think. I just kept her in a dark, quiet environment (ok, she watched Howl's Moving Castle or was it Madagascar with me). Still, it can happen. I'm wishing you luck.

How old is Maggie? It's not too early for you to go to bed, although I always need a few hours on my own before I can go to bed after my kids go to bed.

Maggie turned four in August. She's phasing out the nap, seems to do best when she takes one every second or third day so we didn't push for one today. Maybe we should have.

She just woke up for about 6 hugs, she wouldn't let me put jammies on her though so she's going to be uncomfortable later. Usually I need some time after she goes to bed, but today I pushed myself almost as hard as she pushed herself (doing entirely different things, rather sadly) and I'm beat.

Thanks for the sleep vibes, they are appreciated.

Good luck! Never too young for a splash of rum in the milk... ;)

Thanks! We did okay, although she woke four times in the night, she went back easily and quickly each time. (Not all that restful for Mom, though.) On the very upside -- she's slept much better the past two nights. I think she may have been sleep-deprived and it was making her sleep worse. Knock wood, she may be caught up now.
