I'm amused by Breathed's comment today, but recall him being pretty scathing about books for children last year (or so), although he hadn't really read any. And if John McCain's books for children are anything like the panegyric his daughter wrote, I hope he'll stay clear of kidlit as well.

I think Breathed may be becoming curmudgeonly, but I have liked some of his older books for kids, and I keep meaning to get "Mars Needs Moms."

There certainly are plenty of terrible authors of children's books out there (some of whom are lucky enough not to have their names on the books, I'm thinking of some of those Disney titles that seem to be written by committee, or maybe a computer program), but there's always room for more. Especially if it's keeping them out of D.C. :)
