those are some pretty good resolutions. as you may be able to tell, i'd totally bomb on the "LJ weekly" one -- or even the "write every day" one. sigh.

i hope you've had a good holiday -- and how did nanowrimo go this year? i'd love to read what you wrote (if it's readable -- mine last year wasn't really. come to think of it, i think i'll go over it again. working in a bookstore has educated me as to just how many bad books there are out in the world.)

Yes, as long as a book is bad in the right way, it can become a commercial success. I noticed you are reading Dan Brown. I read "DaVinci" last year; I think the man is a terrible writer, yet still the book managed to be fun. What does that tell those of us who strive? For what should we be striving, greatness, or terribleness?

I puttered out quickly with nano this year. Got sick, got distracted by holidays. Oh, well. And so far, I am not writing every day. But there's always tomorrow. Or even later today. Right?

you know, i felt the same way when i read "angels and demons": from the first few pages, i thought, "this is not well-written"...and yet i couldn't put it down! just a very fun book. and if it's not the best writing ever, at least it's not predictable.

i read over the beginning of my nanowrimo effort from last year -- and it's actually not as bad as i thought it was! most of it's like an inside joke to myself, so i kept laughing and remembering how fun it was to name everyone.

Actually, the one I started last year is the novel I worked on all year. Until November, when I decided to take a break and start something new. I was glad for the break, but I feel ready to get back to my earlier novel, if only to see what happens to the characters. I've been away from them for 2 and a half months, now. It's like taking a vacation from a lover; you either know you want to go back, or you know you don't.
