Well, I got my energy back the day after I last posted, but my ability to eat normally has been returning in slow increments. Thanksgiving was good, regardless. I roasted a duck, and made an excellent cranberry chutney-type-thing and a reasonably good (although I need to work on the recipe) rice dressing to go on the side.

On a much more important note, we all have good reasons to be deeply concerned about the next election. Too bad we have to keep our eyes on the foreign press to get much coverage of issues that are this important to the US. (Unfortunately, the Independent article is no longer available free of charge. the non-free link you have is to the 300 word summary; here's a link to the non-free 5K article:

14 October 2003
"All the President's votes?
A quiet revolution is taking place in US politics. By the time it's over, the integrity of elections will be in the unchallenged, unscrutinised control of a few large - and pro-Republican - corporations. Andrew Gumbel wonders if democracy in America can survive"

(the article is also available from Lexis Nexis, for those with access to a library or law firm that subscribes.)
