Does anyone actually *like* PayPal? Or is it just used because there's no competition? Or what?

It's always been fine for me, never any problems with it. I think there is some competition now like Google checkout, but I've never used it.

Are you using it as a buyer, seller, or both?

I've never tried it as a seller, but as a buyer I hate that the only way I can get it to charge my credit card is by selecting "alternate payment method." Also, the day I posed this, I tried to contribute to WWeek's local give-thingy using my credit card and a different email address than I have on my PayPal account. My payment got rejected and my account got flagged and I got a call from the credit card company that my account was frozen until I talked to them. Gag.

Ugh, that's a hassle.

I use it as a buyer and as a seller. You're right that switching payment methods is a pain. In fact, I wanted to buy something the other night with my credit card and couldn't figure out how to switch it.

So maybe it's not the most user-friendly way, but Paypal has a pretty good grip on online commerce right now.

It seems to work well, and it has a user base large enough to be useful. There may be better systems but without the userbase it's worthless.

Working with them on a professional level SUCKS though, I can tell you that.
