I got a phone call from Dick Armey this morning. What on Earth was he thinking? He asked if I considered myself a Republican, and when I said no, I expected him to hang up, but then he asked if I considered myself a Democrat and I was stumped.
"Maybe," I said.
"Please answer yes or no," Dick said.
"I don't know," I said.
He moved on.
"Do you, like I, think you are paying too much in taxes, and want your taxes to be cut?"
"I don't know," I said.
"On the issue of abortion, do you consider yourself pro-life?" Dick said.
I shouldn't have, but I got freaked and hung up. I figured at this point, me answering no to the Republican question and all, someone was probably just looking for reasons to suspect me of espionage so they could tap my phone. If it had been Rummy or Ashcroft I would have really panicked and probably answered yes to everything.
I'm reluctant to find a candidate to support at this point. Last time I supported a candidate early on (actually two, one from each party) they both lost the primary and we had to choose between Dumb and Boring.
At least we're not Bored.
My primary vote doesn't make a difference, anyway. By the time Oregon gets around to voting, in May, the decision has already been made by voters in states far from here. So, why get excited about a candidate (or two) when I'll just have to be disappointed that The Parties managed to get pablum on the ballots again?
