A moment to breathe
Maggie's napping and I've been telling myself for weeks that I would
attempt a proper update on this blog soon. This won't be the "proper"
update I'm still hoping to do, but it's a start.
Maggie's turned a year old, and then some. She's now 13 months, a week, and a day, just to be official. She's still nursing, but we're down to about 6 times a day from the previous 1,732 times a day of just a couple of weeks ago. Hoping to get that down even further in the next couple of weeks.

chocolatesmudge and her son Linus earlier today, walked around town and through Powell's to the kids' book section. Maggie and Linus share a fascination with all things dog, so encountering an ABC book illustrated with photos of dogs being doggy
caused a chorus of baby babble which, if you happen to be a mother, and you squint and use
your imagination, sounded something like "doggy."
Despite being 33 minutes overtime on the meter, I escaped getting a parking ticket -- my lucky day! The downside was that Maggie fell asleep in the car on the way home. This usually means she won't sleep when we actually arrive home, but since I needed some peace I decided to try the "put her in the crib anyway" tactic. It seems to have worked. She babbled and played in there for about an hour, and finally fell asleep, giving me a moment of peace to realize that I've got so much shit to do around here that the only appropriate action is to check my Friends page and then update my LJ.
I hope to resurface again soon with more thoughts or at least details of how life has been these past few months. Until then, I'll be doing laundry.
