All Harry's Eve

Printer ran out of ink, so I popped down to Office Depot at 8:30 tonight. Office Depot is right next to a Barnes and Noble. When I got there, a line of Trekkies of the Hogwarts persuasion wrapped around the building. Some even wore fake eyeglasses with big round black plastic frames. Kinda fun. I had to park much farther away from the store entrance than ever before -- there were exactly three spots available in the parking lot when I got there. Luckily it was a nice night for a walk.

What bugged me were the guys who drove past the crowd in a little beige Escort. From the backseat of the car, one spoke to the crowd through a megaphone: "Reading Harry Potter supports Satan. Don't do it. Don't waste your money, blah blah blah."

It was all this middle-aged suburban housewife mom could do to keep from raising her hand in an 80's rock-concert devil's-horns salute and shrieking "Wooooooo! Sataaaannnnnnnnn! Wooooo! Yeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!"

And I would have loved to have been there with ya! :)

Similar scene at our local (Kepler's Books, Menlo Park), but not nearly so well-described!

(I think I ran across a comment from you about Always Coming Home which impressed me; when I saw your "welcome back" to Depression, I decided you were somebody whose writing here I'd like to follow.)

I'm assuming the comment was on Amazon? I saw your post on Always Coming Home and have been wanting to find time to write a response, but the Wee Tot has a way of taking up large chunks of time....

I really love "Always Coming Home," it has fed my soul since the first time I encountered it in 1985 or 86. It's a joy to meet another fan!

I hope to post often enough and well enough to keep you interested. Thanks for coming by!
