Sigh.

The entire house is coated with a fine layer of kleenex dust.

I was supposed to have gone to two parties yesterday -- I was invited to a baby shower and the whole family was invited to a birthday party -- but we are all still sick, and so we stayed home.

Portland's first big literary festival, Wordstock, was this weekend, and I had hoped to spend some time there today. Again, too sick.

Combined with the isolation of being the mother of an infant, the isolation of being sick for the past 3 months is getting me down. Really down. My good friend Laura, who moved to a town 3 hours away from here a few months before Maggie was born, calls me and tells me about all the things she does. She even drove back into town for Wordstock. She does more in a week than I do in two months. I don't want her schedule, but it sure would be nice to do *something* again. Socialize. Volunteer. Whatever.

Eric suggested earlier I go take a nap. I told him I don't want to nap, which is true. I realize now, though, that I kinda would like to crawl in bed and cry for a while. I'll take that as a good sign. When I used to get sick a lot, in high school, I usually went into a wet sobby funk right before getting well. So, maybe health is on the way. After that, who knows? Maybe I'll have lunch with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

Still sick?? This is getting crazy. No wonder you're feeling down. I hate that feeling of being stuck at home while life goes on elsewhere.

Did you hear on DamnPortlanders that someone is trying to start a book club in our area? I think the LJ is [livejournal.com profile] pdxbookclub. If that tag didn't work, I got the name wrong. I joined the community, figuring it might be a nice way to get out of the house once a month and have some good conversations. It might interest you too.

I didn't even hear about Wordstock. I hope it's enough of a success that they'll do it again next year.

We're all still sick. Eric went to the doctor yesterday because he thought his sinuses might be infected. She said he didn't seem to have any infection requiring antibiotics, and he's probably still feeling rotten because the virus just hasn't run its course yet. She said she's seeing more and more patients with viruses lasting a solid 10-14 days or even more. I'm on day 12, so maybe this week will be the end of it. Next week (first of May) my mother is visiting, so I'll be keeping Maggie home from daycare then, which means maybe we'll be able to escape any new viruses for a couple of weeks. (Here's hoping!)

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out. A book club sounds like a nice thing to do.
