Well, that's nice

Today is International Women's Day.

I feel so...appreciated.

what happened?

Oh, I suppose it's just the sarcasm bug that bit me. I just felt a little perplexed this morning when I discovered that it is "International Women's Day," but I hadn't previously heard anything about it. So, I'm like expecting a Hallmark card or something? No, that's not it. But maybe a headline about how Bush will recognize International Women's Day by expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act would be appropriate.

It's more political than personal. I'm doing just fine, thanks. :)

It's actually quite an old "holiday"; here's someone else's lj entry with some great quotes:

I observe it as a day to reaffirm the (sad, IMO) continuing need to fight for women's rights around the world. Sometimes I feel happy about it; other years I feel something more like a grim determination. This year is something in between.

well, not as old as most, but definitely not a Hallmark creation.

Thanks for the link to that great post!

I had no idea this holiday had been around for nearly a century. Very interesting, indeed.
