Why do I have the feeling that things will only get worse in the middle east if Arafat dies? I mean, he's the bad guy, right? But I've got a bad feeling about this....

I agree that Arafat's death, even from natural causes, would likely only destablize the politics of the region further. But I am WAY too uninformed to guess whether any other person in his place could move things closer to peace.

I think many people are the bad guys, both Israeli and Palestinian, not to mention all the countries that have been arming one or both of them and all the other people in the world that have hated either or both of them.

I don't know why I said "he's the bad guy," I'm really not the type to oversimplify in that way. Guess I was tired.

He looks so tiny and frail, it freaks me out to see him on tv.

There was an interesting-looking article about Arafat and the Middle East on Salon this week, but I didn't have time to read it and now I can't find it....
