How on Earth...

...does one compare and contrast cell phone companies/services/phones/prices?

I've had Verizon since 2000.  I don't have a problem with them, but I'm thinking of changing phones and if a better package is around, how do I find out about it?

Consumer Reports? It's accessible online from the public library (you'll have to login with your card # & pin at that link). Also a google search for {cell phone comparison} brings up several sites devoted to this topic.

disclaimer: I've had a cell phone for all of 2 weeks; it's prepaid, so my options are much more limited -- making comparison shopping relatively easy -- but I used the above methods to pick the carrier (Verizon).

I'll check that out, thanks.

I have a subscription to CR, which I never use. Thanks for the library tip, that's going to help! :-)

Find friends on each provider you are considering, then drag them to your workplace, your bathroom, the grocery store, and anywhere else you want to talk. Cross reference your findings with who leads in consumer satisfaction, and there you go.

I've had good luck with tmobile, with the exception of their systems getting hacked. :)
