You leave a comment asking me to ask you 5 questions. I do, you answer (as another comment or in your own journal), and you ask me 5 in return.

[livejournal.com profile] kebbo asks 5 questions:

1. how many different places have you lived?
Good question, quite a few. My first home was in Detroit, Michigan, in a little 2-bedroom house inside 8 Mile Road. The last time I saw it, I was about 8 years old, we hadn't lived there in years, and it was boarded up. Then there was Lansing, MI, then an apartment in Toledo, OH, where the neighbor upstairs from us was a pimp, and then a house in Toledo with unfinished townhomes across the street. The builder went bankrupt halfway through the project. Then we moved to San Diego for four years, then a suburb of Chicago for 3 years, then Sacramento for 2 years. Next was Hollywood, Florida (between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale) for 2 years, then college in Muncie, Indiana (I'll count that as one, though there were 2 dorms and a house), then a while back in Chicago suburbia (my parents house and a rented room), then back to Sacramento (my own apartment, a shared apartment, and a room in a house), then LA (shared an apartment), then back to Sacramento (a very cute apartment of my own, built in the '20s; you had to light the oven with a match, which scared me, so I only used the stovetop while I was there), then here to Portland (an apartment and a house.) So, I have lived somewhere between ten and twenty places, depending on how you're counting.

2. what's your favorite vegetable to eat? to cook? to plant?
I think that's sorta 3 questions, but I'm okay with it. To eat is a tough one, I like a lot of veggies. Mere quantity of veggie taken in would mean I'd have to answer onions, I suppose, but I think I'll say butternut squash because dang I just really like it. To cook, maybe sweet potatoes, because they are kind of like butternut squash but easier to deal with. They're also incredibly versatile. To plant, I'm not sure, because I haven't grown any vegetables since an experiement with pumpkins back in junior high. Watch this space for my adventures in vegetable gardening this summer.

3. what language do you wish you could speak, and why?
French. I really like France, but I am utterly confounded by the language. My brain seems to have been genetically pre-tuned for Germanic languages. When we go to France, I have to let my husband do all of the talking. His Mom's best friend when he was growing up was a French teacher, so he doesn't get all embarassed by the sounds like I do.

4. would you go up on the space shuttle if you had the chance?
Um. Wow. I don't know. I'm so addicted to my creature comforts these days, and I'm also a little skittish about enclosed places. If I could get past that, I'd say absolutely yes -- especially if I got to do some sort of research. I always thought being a scientist would be fun.

5. what's something you've learned about yourself in the past few years?
I like being married.

Now, 5 for [livejournal.com profile] kebbo:
1. What was the first music (single or album/CD) you ever bought with your own money?
2. What is the last thing you cooked?
3. What would you do with a million dollars if you had them?
4. If you could be 17 again, would you? Why or why not?
5. Describe a time when you met someone famous. Was that person what you expected, or not?

answered thanks!

I would also want to go up on the space shuttle, but I don't think I'd want to do any research -- I'd spend the whole time looking outside.

I also moved from Sacramento to Portland. I think I've been here long enough now (twelve years) to live down the stigma of being one of the hated Californians.

I'd like to add you to my Friends list, if you don't mind. :-)

Hi, Lisa!

Welcome! I don't mind at all. I believe we've met before, you were a NaNoer this year, right?

I've been in Portland for almost 9 years now, which, as you can probably guess, is far longer than I was ever anywhere else. So, while I don't consider myself an "Oregon native " (I love heat too much), I think my CA stigma has probably worn off, too.

After saying I was going to add you, I forgot to do it. Scatterbrained these days! But I've done it now.

Yep, we met at Java Vivace for NaNo. I'm glad to find you have a Livejournal. I should have paid more attention to the message section about NaNo'ers with LJ's. :-)
