Jan. 25th, 2011 10:08 pm I just returned from a Literary Arts lecture given by Elizabeth Strout, who spoke at (delightful) length about being a white, uptight New England writer. She was terrifically amusing as well as deeply insightful, and I'm very glad I had the ticket and went to see her even though I've never read any of her books. Yet.
Also at the event, the finalists for the Oregon Book Awards were announced, and among them was
lkmadigan , for her first novel "Flash Burnout," which won the 2010 William C. Morris award. I'm thrilled to pieces for her, and cursed my lack of smartphone at the event, which would have allowed me to tweet immediately my "inside scoop" on her nomination. Oh yeah, and other peoples', too. :-) I'll post a link to the full shortlist when it's available tomorrow. It's late and I'm tired and need to sleep on all I took in tonight.
G'night.
