Quick note
Oct. 21st, 2010 10:00 pmI'm changing the title of this journal. I don't remember when I changed it to "Zen Mama," it's been a while. Sometime last year I added the subtitle "crisis to crisis is no way to thrive." I no longer have to remind myself of that second part, thank goodness. I don't think ZenMama really suits right now, either. The name change comes from a conversation I had with Natasha Trethewey tonight, in which we discussed the OED. I've always wanted my own copy of the 24-volume enormous edition, and she had mentioned the OED several times in her talk this evening, so I asked her which edition she had. She said that she owns the "compact" version, the enormous book with all twenty-odd volumes bound within one cover, but with print so small that a powerful magnifying glass is required to read it. She said that she always felt like a detective with that huge magnifying glass, which struck me as a very joyful way to experience tiny print. I told her that when I discovered the OED in my University library, way back when, I felt like I could live the rest of my days in its pages. She said, "so you're a nerd like me," and I said "a word nerd, yes."
The subtitle comes from something I was thinking earlier today or yesterday. Beauty is worth working for.
