What would you do?
Oct. 30th, 2006 12:13 pmI've been organizing my sock drawer this morning. I find this one of the most depressing things I ever do, which is why the state of the sock drawer gets very very bad before I straighten it out. There's something about standing there, sorting and organzing my socks, which tend to be things I think about as little as possible anyway, that slams mortality home for me. One of these days I'm going to be dead and my socks won't matter a bit but that doesn't change the fact that they actually do matter now, the socks, the drawer, the organization, and so here I stand, rather than doing something that might be memorialized, I organize my sock drawer.
Thus it was, with nothing else to do with my brain whilst my fingers were occupied with the socks, I got to thinking. And what I thought was this: If someone told me the following: "How ever you spend your day tomorrow is how you will spend every day for the next ten years," how would I choose to spend my day tomorrow?
Here is what I've come up with. All of these things happen sometimes, but most of them not as often as I'd like.
1) I would get up early, and write a few words, either in a journal or maybe send a postcard to a friend
2) I would eat a hearty breakfast, but no so hearty that it took the entire morning to prepare and clean up after
3) I would greet my daughter with a big smile
4) I would take her to daycare a little bit late
5) I would go to the gym and do my workout
6) I would write for 1-2 hours
7) I would spend 15-30 minutes tidying a messy spot in my home
8) I would make an effort to get in touch with a friend, by phone, mail, or email
9) I'd have a quick but healthy lunch
10) I'd make some plans to do something fun over the weekend
11) I'd spend some face-to-face time with a friend or loved one
12) I'd read for a while
13) I'd try something new
14) I'd write down a good idea, or act on one I've already written down
15) I'd pick up my daughter from daycare a little bit early
16) I'd prepare, serve, and eat a homemade dinner
17) I'd play with my daughter more than usual, put her in front of the tv less than usual
18) I'd have some good lovin' with my husband
19) I'd go to sleep just a little bit early, so I could get up early the next day and do it all over again
I'd love to see all of my friends post this to their LJ's, too. If someone told you, "How ever you spend your day tomorrow is how you will spend every day for the next ten years," how would you choose to spend your day tomorrow?
