The Enron thing will never really go away
Jun. 9th, 2004 07:51 pmOur kitchen lightbulbs are burning out. We have six recessed floodlamps in the kitchen, three of which were replaced with those so-called long-lasting energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs in the summer of 2001. Those bulbs cost about twice as much as the regular bulbs, but were supposed to last 3-5 times as long. Well, ha ha, as the good folks at Enron might say, the joke's on me because 2 of those 3 bulbs have burned out in the past week, meaning that they last no longer than the traditional bulbs. The nicest thing about them is they don't generate as much heat as the regular bulbs, which can make a difference in the summertime. But did they pay for themselves in energy savings? I don't think so.
