Ooh! The Changeleing was my favorite too! (Girl squee!) I still have my old copy, which made me very happy when I wanted to re-read it and discovered it was out of print. You know she's still writing books? I read something by her earlier this year...let's see...oh, I see, I didn't review it, darn. It's called The Treasures of Weatherby, and it was a lot of fun and definitely recognizable as one of her books. She's got a few more out I haven't read, too. Did you ever read the Green Sky series she wrote? (The first one was "Below the Root," and it was about a society of tree-people, the main character was Raamo.) I loved it at the time, but I think now I might find the sci-fi/fantasy elements in it annoying.
I know what you mean about the illustrations, I can still picture some of them so vividly.
