Yes. I think you can. I have 2 best friends (besides my boyfriend). Tracy, I have known my entire life. Our mothers are best friends. We were born within 3 months of each other. We have grown up together--even though at 5 they moved from NW Indiana to Alabama. I have been maid of honor at both her weddings (both ended in divorce) and we're both now 31 and talk several times a week. Becky I have known since 1st grade. Went to elementary, middle, high school and were college roommates together. She is my rock. While Tracy is more drama induced, Becky is more like me. We will talk every day at certain times. So yes, I think it's possible.
Six months ago, I would have said yes. I used to think that a spouse/partner fit that bill.
I think it is possible to have friends for life, but not best friends. I still keep in contact with really good friends from college, but would not call them best friends anymore because I rarely see them and don't really know what's going on in their lives.
