Variations on a meme.

Most of us have done the "desert island" list of books -- if you could only take (one, five, ten) with you, what would it/they be?  Well, this one is a little different, but I want your answers.

Here's the setup:
You're leaving for Borneo or Swaziland or Mars or a deep-Atlantic biodome or someplace where you're not going to be in touch with people for a long time, let's say 15 years.  One of the important people you're leaving behind is a young boy or girl on the cusp of adolescence.  You can leave a stack of 10 books for this person to read while you're gone.  What books do you choose?  (You may include why, if you wish.)

Think about your answers a while.  I'm still thinking about mine (I've only got 5 of my titles so far) and will post them tomorrow sometime.  You can post yours now or wait, but I want to see your answers.

Thanks!

Oooh, A Wrinkle in Time, I can't believe I forgot about that one!

I've never read Catcher in the Rye or Man in the High Castle, maybe I should add those to the list.

Thanks!
