A concern

I called my mother in Wisconsin last night.

"Did you vote? Who did you vote for?" I said.

"No, I didn't vote."

"What? Howcome?"

"Oh. Well,"

Oh my God, I thought. She's going to tell me she's registered as a Republican.

She said: "I couldn't decide between Kerry and Edwards."

"Oh," I said.

"Gilmore Girls is on," she said.

"Oh, yeah. I forgot about central time," I said. "I'll call you later in the week, we'll chat."

"Okay, bye."

People, I'm really really really concerned that my parents, or my in-laws in Ohio, or, God forbid, both, will vote for Bush this year. I already know, though I don't want to, that my in-laws voted for Bush in 2000. I need to understand what would make a person do such a thing. I need to understand what would convince a person that this country and this world will be vastly better off with almost ANYONE else leading. I need to be able to convince people like my in-laws, my cousins, my aunts and uncles, to turn this nation from the dangerous political and economic track it's traveling by ousting our current dangerous administration in the safe, legal way we are guaranteed by our constitution - by voting, once.

And, I would like our elections overseen by the UN. But that's another concern.

Livejournal has a "feature" I don't particularly care for -- it goes something like this. If you have a LJ account, you can post a response to my messages and be identified as the LJ user you are (or, if you have more than one account, you can choose which account to post the reply from.) Unfortunately, I now have at least a few readers who do not have LJ accounts. For you folks, the only option (aside from signing up for your own account, I guess,) is to post anonymously. I just want to let you all know that anonymous posting is fine with me, I understand that you don't have much choice. I'd love it if you would sign your name at the bottom of your response (as Rayne did last week) and feel free to post a link to your own site and/or blog so I can visit. As of today I'm not logging IP addresses. If abuse should start to happen, I'll turn IP logging back on. I'm not too worried about it.

Also, FYI, I'm thinking about switching to salon blogs, this LJ anonymous thing being just one of the reasons why. I'd love to hear from salon bloggers (and Althaea, especially you, since you have both LJ and salon) what you like or don't like about it.

Thanks for your attention. Normal blogging will resume soon.

I read my Yahoo! headlines in somewhat random order, most of the time. Here's what I just saw, in the order I saw it.

- Bush 'Troubled' by San Francisco's Gay Marriages

- Bush Backs Off Forecast of 2.6M New Jobs

- Single Brain Cell Can Move Rat Whiskers

Today has seen an increase in the quantity of my posts. I promise that, very soon, the quality will improve. Honest.
