They say the third time is the charm, so I'm trying it again -- 50,000 words in 30 days, they call it National Novel Writing Month, though anyone in the known Universe can participate. It's about writing. It's about writing so much you don't have the time or the inclination to ask, "but what if it's no good/stupid/already been done/boring/insert lame excuse here?" Last year I tripled my word count from the previous year. This year I have to write 10 times as much in order to finish. Think I'll get there? :-)

Check it out if you want to know more:

it's all about the math

since my word count increased 20-fold from 200 words in 2001 to 4000 words in 2002, I'm expecting to continue that trend -- without any special effort, of course -- and produce 80000 words this time. My only real worry is next year, when I'll be up to 1.6 million; it may be hard to get a publisher for that novel...

I think I had about 1500 words in 2001, and about 4500 last year. Which puts me at just 13,500 words this year. Which will still feel like a huge accomplishment. But I won't "finish" until 2005.

Just in case you got a previous message, this is the official one. I couldn't remember my numbers when I typed the first one (which I've now deleted.) Duh.
